A few simple habits will help protect your jewellery. For a loose setting, a damaged piece or advice about cleaning, email contact@greign.com. Include the order number or a photograph so we can identify the piece.
Everyday care
- Put jewellery on after applying perfume, skincare and hairspray. Remove it before swimming, exercise, household cleaning or activities that could knock or catch it.
- Keep jewellery away from bleach, strong cleaning chemicals and high heat. Do not leave it on a hot surface or expose it to sudden temperature changes.
- Take care around tiled floors, stone countertops and other hard surfaces. Jadeite is tough, but a hard impact can still chip or break it.
- After wearing, wipe the piece with a clean, soft cloth. Store each item separately in a lined box or soft pouch so stones and metal do not rub against one another.
- Check clasps, threads and settings before wearing. If a stone moves, a clasp fails or a thread frays, stop wearing the piece and contact us.
Cleaning jadeite
For plain jadeite without vulnerable fittings, use lukewarm water, a small amount of mild soap and a soft cloth. Gently wipe, rinse away soap and dry with a lint-free cloth. Clean over a bowl or towel rather than an open sink.
For mounted jewellery, use a lightly dampened cloth first. Other stones, adhesives, finishes or fittings may need different care. Avoid soaking strung, glued or mixed-material pieces until we have confirmed the right method.
Do not use toothpaste, abrasive powders, acids, household jewellery dips or home “authenticity tests”. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaning at home unless a qualified jeweller has confirmed it is suitable for the complete piece. There is no need to oil jadeite or leave it soaking in water.
Metal settings and other materials
Gold and silver can scratch through wear. Silver may tarnish; plated finishes may wear over time. These are reasons to choose gentle cleaning rather than abrasive polishing. Do not use a silver polishing cloth on jadeite, plated areas or other delicate surfaces without advice.
If a piece includes pearls, cord, elastic, enamel or another gemstone, follow its specific care instructions. Keep strung jewellery dry where possible and avoid repeatedly stretching elastic. We can advise whether restringing or another service is appropriate.
Fitting and resizing
Never force a rigid jadeite bangle or ring over your hand or finger. Stop if there is pain, marked pressure or swelling. Read our Size Guide before ordering.
Solid jadeite bangles and rings cannot be resized in the way metal jewellery can. Whether a metal setting can be resized depends on its design, stones and construction. We will assess feasibility and agree the price before work starts; resizing is not automatically complimentary.
Our manufacturing warranty
GREIGN provides a 12-month commercial warranty against manufacturing defects in jewellery purchased directly from us, starting on the date of delivery or collection. Gift recipients can use the warranty with reasonable proof of the original purchase. It is additional to your statutory rights.
If we confirm a manufacturing defect, we will repair the item without charge or provide an appropriate replacement. If neither is reasonably possible, we will offer a refund or another remedy you agree to. Necessary shipping for an accepted warranty claim is covered by GREIGN.
Our commercial warranty does not cover normal wear, accidental damage, loss, theft, damage from chemicals or misuse, or damage caused by alterations or repairs performed by others. Examples of normal wear include surface scratches and gradual finish wear. A stone lost because of a confirmed manufacturing fault in its setting is assessed as a warranty issue; stone loss is not automatically excluded.
A repair by another jeweller does not automatically invalidate an unrelated claim. We assess whether that work caused or contributed to the issue. Natural characteristics accurately disclosed before purchase are not themselves a manufacturing defect.
The end of the 12-month warranty is not a deadline for all claims. Your rights regarding faulty or misdescribed goods continue for the period provided by applicable law.
Arranging a repair or assessment
- Email the order reference, a short description of the issue and clear photographs if possible. Tell us when you noticed it and whether an impact or other event occurred.
- We will explain the assessment and safe return arrangements. Please retain detached parts and do not attempt to glue, polish or repair the item yourself.
- After assessment, we will explain the findings. For paid work, we will provide a quotation covering the work, any assessment fee, shipping and estimated completion time before you authorise it.
- We proceed only after your agreement. If the scope or price changes, we will seek your agreement again.
If you decline a paid repair, we will explain the arrangements and any previously agreed costs for returning your item. Some repairs may not be possible or may change the appearance of a damaged stone. We will explain this before you decide. We do not promise that every piece can be restored to its original condition.
